En direct de Montpellier, sous le nom de code ALAN FAKEMAN, Mathias DUBAR et Sébastien GILS ont tapé dans les oreilles de l’équipe de la Casbah, grâce â Uncharted songs, leur premier album autoproduit.
Inutile de leur poser la question des influences : on sent à l’écoute de ce disque que les deux musiciens ont beaucoup écouté les chansons des héros lo-fi américains des années 90, qu’il soit vivants (Lou BARLOW, Jay MASCIS, Calvin JOHNSON, le bon BECK des débuts) ou malheureusement disparus (Mark LINKOUS, David BERMAN, Vic CHESTNUTT).

Émanant d'une voix de monstre gentil, les mélodies entêtantes surnagent dans les strates d'un rock bricolé, qui reste toujours d'excellente tenue. Ni exercice de style (aucune pose ou fake attitude ne se détectent), ni complainte nostalgique (bouh !), ce disque est une œuvre respectueuse d’une décennie importante pour le rock indépendant.
Il ne reste qu’à espérer qu’un label signera bientôt ce duo, que nous allons suivre de très près…

Les Black Angels sortaient Wilderness of mirrors il y a tout juste un an sur le label Partisan Records. Au printemps dernier les américains et l’américaine étaient en tournée Européenne pour le présenter et j’ai eu la chance de les interviewer juste avant leur concert à La belle Electrique à Grenoble. Tout au long de cette Carte Blanche consacrée à ce groupe majeur de la scène rock psychédélique contemporaine vous écouterez non seulement des extrait du long entretien qu’ils m’ont accordé mais également des morceaux extrait de leur dernier album en date, mais également des titres piochés dans leur discothèque personnelle.      À la base, DYLAN MUNICIPAL est un quatuor lillois de pop en VF, actif depuis environ 2005. Sur cette longue période, il y a eu des albums explorant la lo-fi, le slow-core, le post-punk, le dub et surtout le spoken-word électroniquement rythmé. À ce large spectre musical s'associe une exploration de champs sémantiques souvent assez peu visités : le curling, les félins nageurs et les météorites tueuses ont par exemple eu droit à leurs chansons (pas de jaloux).
 Actuellement, et pour des raisons géographico-pratiques, le projet DYLAN MUNICIPAL se résume souvent à son chanteur, Damien BREUX, qui propose vaillamment de faire vivre la flamme en jouant en concert avec des gameboys et des dictaphones (plus décroissant tu t'évapores).
 
Voici une séléction de morceaux qui m'accompagnent parfois (quasi) quotidiennement, trimestriellement ou éternellement.
 
Je les écoute en allant travailler sur mon vélo (à faible volume), en épluchant des carottes, en regardant mes enfants jouer leurs matchs si la sono du club ne va pas trop fort, en discjockant dans des surprises parties de vétérans ou même en enseignant le graphisme à des étudiants (avec un peu plus de hits que dans cette sélection quand même).
 
Vous y trouverez des mélopées estonniennes, du reggae solaire, du noise élégiaque, du cowboy cosmique, un souvenir de jeunesse anonyme, de la pop émotive et émouvante, un rêve de Pascal COMELADE jouant aux cartes avec les YOUNG MARBLE GIANTS, de l'indie rock d'hier d'aujourd'hui, une bande son italienne oubliée des sixties, du DEPECHE MODE de poche, une splendeur de Bristol, du lyrisme échevelé, la formule magique de PAVEMENT appliquée à Cardiff, des punkettes no wave et new yorkaise en virée à Toys R Us, une mélopée canadienne, un dresseur de goblin sur Game Boy et une lilloise quasiment chez Sarah.
